Hello! I’m Rachel Louise Winks (hence ‘rlwinks.com’). I created this blog in 2017 to share practical marketing advice with solo consultant and freelance software developers to help them find clients.
My career is in communications and marketing. In 2017, I was talking to and working with software developers – and learning to do a little coding (a very little coding) at the same time.
When I talked to software developers about how I struggled with programming (like it’s a dark art) they often told me how they struggled with marketing (equally, like it’s a dark art).
So, I tried to capture my experience and put it to good use.
For 20 years, I’ve been helping people with scientific and technical backgrounds connect with their audiences and customers – I know it’s often a challenge for them.
I realised it’s not necessarily the case that people who are always on the internet and know their way around something like IntelliJ automatically know their way around Instagram or Twitter.
So, I wanted to demystify marketing for consultant and freelance software developers.
Although I closed the blog at the end of 2017, I hope you find the posts useful.
And from time-to-time, you’ll see I also blogged about programming and fantasy/sci-fi – because, well, they’re awesome.
